A quieter 5-meter travertine waterfall 20 km from Kravica — with swimming and a traditional mill.

Koćuša is a smaller cousin of Kravica — a 5-metre-tall travertine (tufa) cascade on the same Trebižat river, about 20 km northwest of Kravica Waterfall, in the village of Veljaci near Ljubuški. It has the same geological origin as Kravica (travertine deposition from calcium-rich karst water) but at a fraction of the scale and, crucially, a fraction of the visitor traffic.
Physical site: Koćuša spans roughly 50 metres across, with water spilling over multiple short drops into a pool below. The cascade is not a single waterfall but a series of mini-falls arranged across the river's width. Swimming is possible in the pool; the bottom is pebbled and the depth varies from ankle-deep at the edges to 2–3 metres in the central pool.
The old mill: a 19th-century water mill (mlinica) sits next to the waterfall — one of the last functional traditional mills on the Trebižat. The mill's water-wheel is sometimes running in summer; the owner offers informal tours and sells stone-ground flour and corn.
Why it's worth visiting: it's the Kravica you can have to yourself. On a July afternoon when Kravica might have 500–800 visitors packed around its main pool, Koćuša will often have fewer than 30 people. The waterfall is less dramatic but more accessible and more intimate. The surrounding grassy area works as a picnic site; a small café serves drinks and simple meals.
For travellers on our tours: Koćuša isn't part of our standard Kravica-focused tours — adding it would stretch the day too long and dilute the main waterfall experience. It works as a Mostar Private Driver extension for visitors who want a quieter waterfall stop or who have already visited Kravica and want to see the "twin" cascade.
Practical notes: entrance is free (unlike Kravica's €10). Parking is in a small lot; the walk to the waterfall is 200 metres and flat. No entry fee, no crowded gates, no time pressure — which is exactly the appeal for some travellers. Best visited May through September; winter flow is higher but swimming is impossible and the site is often muddy.
